Do you know your new Trustees?

At the end of last year, we informed you about our newly elected Board of Trustees on our website and in MediBrief. Some Trustees have already served in the preceding term and were introduced in previous MediBrief editions. In this issue we would like to tell you more about the Trustees that weren’t featured in MediBrief yet.

Dr Frank Fox, member elected Trustee, Gauteng

Frank is a medical doctor with an extensive academic background. He worked for Mondi and Anglo American for over 30 years. Frank retired as the Head of Occupational Health in 2015, went into private practice and consulting, worked in full-time clinical practice in Ireland and consulted to the WorldBank on Occupational Health. He is well known to the Scheme, as he already served as a Trustee for many years before he retired from Anglo American. We are delighted to have him back on the board; he will again contribute as a member of the Management Committee and the chair of the Ex Gratia Committee.

Philile Mhlongo, member-elected Trustee, Gauteng

Philile completed her legal education in South Africa and the UK. She started her career as a candidate attorney at Werksmans Attorneys, where she was retained as an associate. Philile was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2014, and continued to practise as an attorney prior to joining Anglo American Group Legal as a legal specialist in dispute resolution. Philile is a new and dynamic Trustee and is already providing valuable input as a member of the Ex Gratia Committee. She sees herself as the members’ advocate as she understands what members expect and need from their medical aid. Her education and experience are a perfect fit to help her to deal with complex matters in our industry.

Nicholas Mason-Gordon, member-elected Trustee, Gauteng

Nicholas is Anglo American’s Head of Treasury and filled this role for the biggest part of his career at the organisation. Before joining Anglo American he worked directly with the Minister of Finance and Trade and Industry. The Scheme benefits from Nicholas’ extensive knowledge of the financial markets and investment world; he chairs the Scheme’s Investment Committee on which he already served as alternate Trustee for the last 5 years. With his knowledge and interest in the changing medical horizon in South Africa, Nicholas will continue to ensure that the Scheme stays on the right course in these challenging times.
