EVDS questions and answers?

What is the EVDS

The Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) is called "the official South African Covid-19 Vaccination Programme registration portal", but it is in fact so much more than a registration portal. EVDS is a complex management system that uses the data you enter (your age, your address, your contact details etc) to plan the national vaccine roll-out by determining where to open vaccination sites and how many doses are needed at the relevant locations.

Only if we register on the EVDS, we can ensure enough vaccines will be available at the location we need them. The more demand EVDS picks up, the more vaccines will be brought into the country. If there are not enough registrations, supply of sufficient vaccines for the country can't be guaranteed.

How do I know that EVDS captured my registration?

"After registering on the EVDS, you should receive an SMS confirming that you are registered, this means you are "in the queue" to be scheduled for your vaccine. If you have not received the registration confirmation SMS, please go back and verify by entering your ID number."

"You can always re-register if you are not sure. If you enter your ID number, it will tell you if you're registered or not.

Why do I need to provide my Medical Aid details?

"The EVDS will ask you if you have a medical aid. If you do, you will need to enter the name of the scheme and also your medical aid number. The system will try to send medical aid members to private sites (if there is one in their area) but they may be invited to a public site," he said.

What if my contact details changed since I registered?

"If a person had a change of address since f irst registering, they can go back to the EVDS system and enter the new information. There will not be a duplicate record ", as long as you use the same ID number. The system will use your ID number to effect any updates to your personal information. The EVDS is designed to deal with changes and updates to your personal information.

The only thing that can't be changed is the cell phone number that you entered. Be very careful and double check when entering the cell phone number."

What would happen if I miss an appointment?

"The system will reschedule your appointment twice and after the third time that you missed it, you can phone and they will schedule you again. But we will give you three opportunities to get the vaccination before this point."
